BACOLOD City – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) – Negros Occidental survey areas in San Carlos City are among the nine priority areas for the department’s free WiFi project.

Engr. Mary Jane Maravilla, Information Technology Officer I of DICT – Negros Occidental, said the free WiFi is a joint project of the province, DICT and the local government unit of San Carlos City in providing free internet access in public places.

“As of now we are trying to resolve certain issues and challenges such as areas which aren’t accessible for huge trucks that will be used during the installation and low-lying areas that might affect the internet connection,” Maravilla said.

Meanwhile, San Carlos City Administrator lawyer Estefanio S. Libutan Jr. with Information Technology & Computer Services Office (ITCSO) head as well as Information Technology officer Engr. Joseph A. Binghay and City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office (CPDCO) staff discussed the infrastructure installation process in the city with the DICT representatives.

There are 116 identified public sites for free WiFi while the local government of San Carlos would be prioritizing the 18 Barangay Halls, Tech4Ed Centers and other significant public places since these areas are already capable of easier access to the installation. (PIA)
