Roxas City residents nabbed in Pilar for ‘illegal fishing’

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Five persons from this city were arrested for alleged illegal fishing in the waters of Pilar, Capiz Thursday afternoon.

The Bantay Dagat team of Pilar identified the boat captain of the motorbanca as Gregy Tenorio, 38, while his four crew members were Remie Beloso, 60, Jomar Zamora, 20, Eduardo Dela Cruz Jr, 20, and Jay Andrias 32, all residents of Libas here.

The team seized their motorboat, fishing nets, assorted fish, and other fishing gears.

The fishing boat is presently in the custody of the Bantay Dagat for violating Municipal ordinance No. 01 series of 1999 or illegal fishing with the use of prohibited fishing gears.

The five crew members were released after paying the fines prescribed by the municipal ordinance.

The local government unit of Pilar is strictly monitoring illegal fishing activities in the town.

Mayor Arnold Perez said his administration is intensifying the conduct of seaborne patrol to apprehend and abort any illegal fishing activities in the town which was the subject of complaints of small or municipal fishers.
