A 32-year-old jobless man was arrested for alleged robbery after his two victims ran after him.

The incident happened 8:15 p.m. of Dec 28, 2021 at the public plaza of Dumangas, Iloilo.

The suspect was identified as Marvin Flores, a resident of Barangay Tabucan, Dumangas.

Lawrence Dorego, 18, of Barangay Baras, Dumangas, and his female friend, Jelah Vello, 25 of Regidor-Burgos-Zamora village Dumangas, were sitting in a secluded portion of the plaza when the suspect approached them.

Staff Sergeant Terence John Soria, Dumangas police investigator, said Flores poked a knife at them and declared hold-up.

He forcible took Dorego and Vello’s mobile phones and fled on foot.

But the two victims chased him while shouting for help.

The suspect was immediately cornered and arrested with the help of other people at the plaza.

Saria said the suspect reasoned that he was forced into committing robbery due to poverty.

He has no work but is currently training to be a welder.

Saria said Flores had no prior criminal infraction in Dumangas town.

The suspect is presently detained and will be charged for robbery.
