Reviving tokhang is reviving evil

By Reni M. Valenzuela

A cosmetic surgery to beautify a beastly past is yet to be invented. Happy New Year!

It’s in the news again! The idea of reviving Oplan Tokhang as broached by a senator means reviving the Duterte administration’s abominated and bloody anti-drug program that is more evil than the evils it aims to crush.

Some immediate past officials have been busy peddling the said idea like they have achieved something good to end the drug menace in the country, when, as a matter fact, they have only achieved (in that aspect) in ending the lives of countless thousands of small time drug pushers and drug users, including children, minors and innocent people as collateral damage, notwithstanding their denial of accusations of extrajudicial killings and “nanlaban” tales.

The drug problem has never been gone, but what “return” of the problem are they talking about? The drug menace remains as rampant, blatant and malignant to this day. Tokhang is a total failure, as it has even evolved to become a society’s menace itself – new, sanctioned, deadlier and diabolic.

“Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” – Ephesians 5:11

Beware of “friendly” advice more than criticisms.
