Region 6 jins snag nine medals in Palaro

TAEKWONDO jins from Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) started hauling gold medals in Poomsae events of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.

Ilonggo jins made their presence felt early in the annual games after copping five gold medals.

Cindy Joy Diasnes from Central Philippine University (CPU) won two gold medals in secondary girls’ Poomsae Individual B. She also teamed up with Sophia Marie Tungala and Bacolod’s Jaime Hannah Agaloos to snatch the gold in the secondary girls’ Team Poomsae.

Agaloos of Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen proved her worth once again when she bagged a gold medal in the secondary girls’ Poomsae Individual A.

Region 6’s boys also made sterling performances in this year’s Palaro.

Ceanne Kyle V. Rosquillo took the gold in the secondary Poomsae Individual B, while Ateneo de Iloilo’s “small but terrible” Cyd Edryc Esmaña also notched a gold medal finish in elementary boys’ Poomsae.

Julianna Martha Uy pocketed the silver medal in the elementary girls’ Poomsae Individual A, while Jesseray Lucas Frantilla, Joshua Cachero, and Ceanne Kyle Rosquillo added another silver in the secondary boys’ Team Poomsae.

Clyde Chua, Miguel Julio Zapata, and Esmaña took home the bronze medal in the elementary boys’ Team Poomsae. Elizabeth Marie Borres, Julianna Martha Uy, and Niesha Kariz Pequierda also got the bronze in the elementary girls’ Team Poomsae.

Meanwhile, Western Visayas stunned Northern Mindanao to pocket their second straight win in secondary boys’ basketball, 85-64.

Alfrence Braza, 17, outran other competing sprinters in the country to win a gold medal in the secondary boys’ 5,000-meter run. He hails from Mandurriao, Iloilo.
