BACOLOD City – Grudges triggered a man to kill a radio commentator in Barangay Himocdongon, Mabinay, Negros Oriental last Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Rey Blanco, a resident of Barangay 2, Bais City. He was an anchorman of Power 102.1 DYRY RFM based in Mabinay town.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim went to the house of his friend, who happens to be the brother of the suspect identified as 48-year-old Charles Amada, a farmer.

Police said the suspect suddenly appeared from behind and allegedly stabbed the victim, hitting his neck.

The victim was taken to Mabinay Community Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect surrendered to barangay officials and was subsequently turned over to the responding policemen. A knife used in the incident was also turned over to the police.

The suspect had grudges against the victim after the latter criticized the suspect’s family in his radio program, according to the police.

In a Facebook post, Power 102.1 DYRY RFM management, expressed its sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of Blanco.

“Ang pagkawala ng isang batikan at may malasakit na komentarista ay hindi nangangahulogan na matatapos na rin ang kanyang adbukasiya, ang pagtanggol sa mga taong inaapi at inabuso lalo na sa mga mahihirap,” the station said.

The station stressed that killing is prohibited by God and the law. Thus, it is only right to give appropriate punishment to a person who committed a heinous crime.

“Walang demokrasya kung walang independiyenteng media. Kung patahimikin mo ang mga mamamahayag, pinatahimik mo ang boses ng demokrasya,” the station said.
