With a bunch of Filipinos punching their ticket to the PH hall of fame in sports these past 2 months, the Philippine Sports Commission decided that deserving athletes will be given financial security starting next year to cover all their expenses in training, trip tickets for tournament, and their needs.

Carlos Yulo, Nesthy Petecio, Ernest Obiena, Eumir Marcial, and Hidilyn Diaz all made waves after successful outings in their respective sports which caught the PSC’s attention.

PSC emphasized that for the PH athletes to be successful and consistent, they should elevate their preparations and training than what they usually do to conquer not only Southeast Asia but the whole world.

In line with that, PSC chairman Butch Ramirez said that to attain that level of consistency regarding their performance, the PSC will be shouldering the financial coverage of whatever the athletes need.

The PSC has already allocated a total of 1.2 billion pesos of funding for the training, foreign exposure, allowances, and needs of the PH athletes and coaches.

“We have been all out in supporting our athletes for the SEA Games. Starting January, we will make sure that the financial assistance (on all athletes) will be performance-based,” Ramirez said.
