PSA preps for 2020 census of population and housing

THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will be conducting the Census of Population and Housing (CPH) next year, 2020.

In line with this, the agency is busy preparing, especially for the conduct of the 2019 Integrated Census Map Updating Activity.

The PSA Iloilo Provincial Statistical Office, headed by Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida C. Amolar, hired two Map Data Reviewers, eight Map Data Processors, and 14 Map Data Verifiers to participate in the 2nd Level Training on the Processing of Geotagged Buildings, Updating of Digitized Maps and Enumeration Area (EA) Delineation for the Development of Enumeration Area Reference File (EARF) for 2020 CPH.

The training was held at Days Hotel, Atrium Mall, General Luna St., Iloilo City, Iloilo last July 15 to 26, 2019 and conducted by PSA-RSSO 6. The participants are from the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.

The purpose of the 2019 Integrated Census Map Updating Activity is to create accurate and reliable EA maps, and create the final EARF to be used in the 2020 CPH, which can be attained by the efficient conduct of various processes for the census.

Specifically, this will involve different process; the processing of geo-tagged building points, update layers of barangay boundaries and road networks, process of field validated layers and boundaries, and delineating and merging of enumeration areas.

The processing of geo-tagged building points will ensure that all geo-tagged points are located within their respective building structure, will modify the attribute tables of the corresponding geo-tagged points, and will come up with merged city/municipality geo-tagged building points.

Updating of layers for barangay boundaries and road networks for selected areas will come up with updated layers and shapefiles of barangay boundaries, river and road networks for areas subject for EA delineation and merging, and will update existing barangay boundary, river and road network layer shapefiles.

Meanwhile, the Geo-tagging of Building Structures is still on-going and the verifying will start as soon as the former ends this August 2019.

Amolar asked for the understanding and cooperation of everyone in the conduct of the activities for the smooth operation of the 2020 CPH.

The results for 2020 CPH for the information of everybody will provide government planners, policy makers and administrators with data on which to base their social and economic development plans and program.
