PRC Capiz collects 22 drums of blood in 2021

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A total of 10,301 blood units or blood bags were collected by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Capiz chapter in its voluntary blood donation campaign in the province in 2021.

The figure translates into 22 drums of blood with each blood unit equivalent to 450 milliliter.

“Blood donation is important, now more than ever, during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said a PRC-Capiz chapter social media post as it thanked all its partners and volunteer blood donors for the continued support to the National Voluntary Blood Services Program despite the challenges amidst the health crisis.

The total blood collection represents 1.26 percent of the provincial population.

Based on the PRC data, the municipality of Maayon with 2.80 percent accomplishment topped the 14 of the 17 local government units in the province that have collected one percent or more blood units vis-à-vis their respective population.

The top 10 voluntary blood donation performing barangays are Culilang in President Roxas town (29.0%), Old Guia, Maayon (7.74%), Binantuan in Panay town (7.42%), Alayunan, Maayon (7.36%), Fernandez, Maayon (6.54%), Esperanza in Jamindan town (6.10%), Molet, Jamindan (6.03%), Wright in Tapaz town (5.98%), Cogon, Panay (5.93%) and Alipasiawan in Dumarao town (5.7%).

A local radio station topped the non-LGU mass blood donation organizers that also included Rotary Club of Roxas, HERCOR College, Inc., Rotary Club of Metro Roxas D3850 and IIC International.

The list also includes Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, Saint Anthony College Hospital, Bailan District Hospital in Pontevedra town, Capiz Doctors’ Hospital, Inc., and Capiz Emmanuel Hospital, Inc . as among the top 5 bloodletting organizers for the hospital category.

The year-long voluntary blood donation campaign is a collaborative effort of the Department of Health, Provincial Health Office, LGUs, private sector and PRC, among others. (PIA Capiz)
