BACOLOD City – Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental said a random mass testing will be conducted in January 2021 among families with relatives who came home for the holidays.
Yulo said the test aims for early detection of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 and to prevent its spread.
The mayor said they expect family members working or studying outside the town to go home to spend Christmas and New Year with their respective families.
She said they are very strict on monitoring the entry of Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs).
While the town imposed a moratorium on LSIs starting Dec 21, 2020, they allowed those who were stranded because of tropical depression Vicky to come home.
The LSIs arrived Tuesday.
Yulo also stressed that “Only immediate family members are allowed, if you are a boyfriend or girlfriend of a resident and want to spend the holidays here, we will not allow it.”
Even relatives who want to hold reunions with their kin here are also strictly prohibited.
Yulo appealed to residents to strictly observe basic health protocols such as wearing of face masks and face shields, frequent handwashing, and social distancing.
The eight employees who earlier tested positive of the virus have also recovered, she said.
