The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) honored the heroism of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos who died during an operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao seven years ago.

PNP’s third highest ranking officer, Lieutenant General Israel Ephraim Dickson, led the PRO-6’s wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the Day of National Remembrance for the Gallant Special Action Force (SAF) 44, as a way of paying tribute to the ultimate sacrifice the SAF troopers did.

Also in attendance were Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, Western Visayas police chief; Mrs Jennifer Allaga, wife of one of the fallen SAF 44 troopers; and Police Captain Melchor Patna-an, commander of the 63rd Special Action Company of the 6th Special Action Battalion.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, through Presidential Proclamation No.164, proclaimed every 25th of January as the “National Day of Remembrance for the Gallant SAF 44” to remind the Filipinos of the heroism of the SAF 44 during the Mamasapano clash on Jan 25, 2015.

The day would also serve as a celebration for the daily sacrifices of the uniformed servicemen to maintain peace and security.

During the celebration, Dickson read the message of PNP chief General Dionardo Carlos for the occasion, which was simultaneously done all over the country.

“This day of commemoration is the day where we ought to reflect for their unselfish deeds for our country which symbolizes the heart of a true warrior. Though, we cannot repay their heroism, yet will always be remembered in our hearts for they fought bravely up to their last breath,” Carlos said.

Further, “may the memories of the Gallant SAF 44 serve as constant inspiration to strengthen our faith in God and continue our sworn duty to protect the public from lawless elements, criminal acts, terrorism and anti-illegal drugs that ruin the future of our children,” he said.
