PNP tags 3 capiz towns as poll hot spots

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Philippine National Police (PNP) classified three towns in Capiz as “hot spots” relative to the May 23, 2019 midterm elections.

Police Col. Canelo Fuentes, provincial director of Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), said the three towns are President Roxas, Cuartero and Tapaz.

Citing their monitoring, Fuentes said there is intense political rivalry in President Roxas, while the New People’s Army (NPA) are security threats in the towns of Cuartero and Tapaz.

Fuentes said checkpoints were established throughout the province, aside from the massive campaign against illegal drugs and loose firearms.

He appealed to the public to help the police in maintaining peace and honest elections.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is prepared for the coming political exercise.

According to acting provincial Comelec supervisor, Atty. Jessy Suarez, they already finished the training of thousands of teachers who will assist the voters inside the polling places.

He said that they will conduct training for elections board of canvassers that will check the canvassing of votes and transmission to the national level.

Suarez added that Capiz has 745 cluster precincts and 513,329 registered voters.
