PNP chief debunks slay plot vs Garins

REPORTS on the alleged slay plot against Mayor Oscar Garin Sr. of Guimbal, Iloilo and his son, first district Rep. Oscar “Richard” Garin Jr. remain unvalidated.

A few weeks back, text messages circulated that the police, particularly the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), is planning to assassinate the Garins.

But CIDG in Western Visayas, through its regional director Police Colonel Benliner Capili, already denied the veracity of the information.

Some quarters surmised that there are individuals who are using the PNP to sow fear and threaten the Garins.

Police Brigadier General John Bulalacao, Western Visayas police chief, earlier labeled the information as “fake news.”

Recently, no less than Philippine National Police chief General Oscar Albayalde also called the report as false.

“I think in fairness naman sa mga Garin, in fact, a few weeks after that incident with the police, they went to my office and they were apologetic,” he said.

Albayalde was referring to the widely publicized mauling incident between the two Garins and Police Officer 3 (PO3) Federico Macaya Jr. in December 2018 in Guimbal town.

“And following what happened, I think sincere naman sila at wala naman tayong nabalitaan na gusto nilang gawin,” Albayalde said.

He added, “that is probably a fake news. Hindi gagawin ng CIDG yun to assassinate them or probably gawan ng hindi maganda dahil wala naman tayong nakita or even any retaliatory actions coming from the Garins.”

The country’s top cop said the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) and Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) both did not submit any validated information on the assassination plot against any member of the Garin family.
