PLDT enables Visayas with technology amid COVID-19 situation

PLDT Enterprise deploys fiber-grade fiber-grade internet connection in the quarantine facilities in Sacred Heart School, Cebu City.

In the ongoing battle against the pandemic coronavirus COVID-19, PLDT Enterprise continues its pledge to provide free connectivity support across the country including the Visayas region.

PLDT Enterprise recently provided free connectivity support and hotline services to various medical facilities and security checkpoints in the cities of Cebu, Iloilo, Ormoc, and Tacloban—to help ease the burden of COVID-19 frontliners during this time.

In Cebu City, PLDT has deployed a fiber-grade internet connection for the two sites of Bayanihan-Cebu such as in Sacred Heart School for Boys Gym and IC3 Convention Center, which currently serve as quarantine holding facilities as designated by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 7.

“The free internet and wi-fi ensures mobile connectivity for all quarantined patients, for them to be able to freely communicate with family members and friends while they battle against the COVID-19 virus,” Jimmy Chua, AVP & Head of Corporate Relationship Management – Visayas for PLDT Enterprise said.

Likewise, PLDT Enterprise also deployed COVID-19 emergency hotlines in Iloilo City and provided 13 tents for security personnel at lockdown checkpoints. These communication solutions and equipment aid the city’s response initiatives. Iloilo province has also been given free Microsoft Teams accounts for videoconferencing, which the local government uses for its COVID-19 operations.

In Western Visayas Medical Center in Panay Region, meanwhile, PLDT Enterprise has provided free upgrade on their iGate connectivity to support their communication requirements to make the operations for the COVID-19 facility more efficient and easier.

“Providing massive communications support is what PLDT Enterprise strives to do during this difficult time. We realize the enormity of this Covid-19 pandemic, and through free connectivity and other necessary communication means, as well as equipment we can provide, we are here to serve the medical community and the government,” said Jovy Hernandez, ePLDT President & CEO and SVP & Head for PLDT and Smart Enterprise Business Groups.

Smart Tents have also been deployed in the City of Bago in partnership with Smart Prepaid Team in Bacolod City. These tents are being used for the border checkpoints, as mandated by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) guidelines.
