With the Philippines garnering the top spot in the medal tally of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, the PH Ice Hockey squad looks to join the medal party and deliver another gold in front of their home crowd.

Recently crushing their Malaysian foes 15-1, team captain Steven Fuglister delivered three goals in their opening game and said that this is just the first step to their ultimate goal.

An interesting fact about team captain Fuglister? He visits Negros yearly because his mother is a Negrense, from La Castellana and Binalbagan.

As a Negrense, Fuglister also stated that his wife is from Cebu, and they would always find time to go to Negros to unwind.

“I live in Makati for 4 years now. I grew up in Switzerland. I visit my family every now and then in Bacolod, we have a house there.” Fuglister told the Daily Guardian in an interview.

Growing up in Switzerland, Fuglister already knew the basics of the sport because it is one of the most common things for past time there, and he consistently practiced as his love for the sport grew.

With the SEA Games still ongoing, Fuglister said that the support not only from the Negrenses but from the Region overwhelms him and the team, and it inspires them to do better.

“Even if many can’t come and physically watch the games in Manila we appreciate every single one that supports us via social media. Thank you,” Fuglister stated.
