Passengers stab trike driver

Police have yet to establish the motive behind the stabbing incident that injured a tricycle driver early morning of Feb 7, 2022 in Molo, Iloilo City.

Richie Hinog, 22, a resident of Barangay Katilingban, Molo, is now recuperating from stab wounds on the back of his head.

Staff Sergeant James Merver Pano, Molo police investigator, said Hinog was flagged down by two men at Katilingban village around 12:20 a.m. Monday.

The two wanted to be ferried to Onsite in Barangay South Fundidor, Molo.

One of them sat behind the driver while the other occupied the sidecar.

They were slowly navigating a portion of Katilingban when the back passenger stabbed the victim on the back of his head.

Hinog told investigators that there was no provocation nor apparent reason for the two suspects to attack him.

There was no exchange of words between him and the suspects, Hinog claimed.

The suspects appeared to be drunk when the incident happened.

“Posible nga na-trippingan lang siya. But we couldn’t say that there was no intention to kill because he was stabbed on his back,” Pano said.

The two suspects fled on foot after the incident.

A hot pursuit operation was launched but failed to arrest the suspect.

Hinog was taken to Western Visayas Medical Center for treatment.
