The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 6 through its Negros Occidental Field Office (DOLE RO 6-NOFO) turned-over different livelihood assistance to parolees and probationers of the first district of Negros Occidental at the San Carlos City Agricultures Office, recently.
At least 40 beneficiaries benefitted from among the livelihood assistance which include livestock/ animals raising, tricycle, egg wholesale / retail, rice retailing, and food and fruit vending carts worth P20,000 each.
Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. underscored the importance of providing the assistance to former persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) to support the process of reformation and to assist for their peaceful co-existence with the mainstream of society.
Senior Labor Employment Officer Elmer Gimay spearheaded in the turn-over and encouraged the beneficiaries to take good care of their livelihood and make it sustainable since it will help them alleviate from poverty.
The livelihood assistance was granted under the DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) as part of the Reformation Enhancement for Holistic Advancement of Beneficiaries (REHAB), an initiative in collaboration with the Department of Justice’s-Parole and Probation Administration- Region 6 (DOJ-PPA).
REHAB is a special convergence project of the DOLE in collaboration with the DOJ-PPA and other national government agencies in Western Visayas which is aimed at helping ex-offenders in the region through the provision of the various programs, projects and services focused on specific challenges facing the beneficiaries so as to mitigate the barriers that prevent them from reintegrating into the community and eventually become law-abiding citizens.
Present during the activity were Ms. Grace Tomaro, Regional Officer-in-Charge of Parole and Probation Administration Region 6, CPPO Nilda F. Diwatin, Sr. PPO Katherine Louise S. Guanzon, AAIV Lucila S. Alcos and Parole and Probation Administration- San Carlos Staff Gerard H. Peral Jr., Ma. Dolores C. Combate, Lyn Marie C.
