A 27-year-old father died from drowning over the weekend at Culasi, Antique.

The body of John Vincent Filaro, a resident of Barangay Alojipan, Culasi, was found at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, or around 21 hours after the incident.

Filaro’s 6-year old son, John Andrix, survived.

Police Captain Bryan Alamo, Culasi police chief, said John Vincent and his son went bow arrow fishing in the nearby Bacong River in Alojipan village shortly after lunch on Saturday.

At around 2 p.m., hard rain fell in the area.

Alamo said the rain may have caused the river to swell which swept the father and son.

A minor, who happened to pass by the area, saw the victims and asked for help.

Responders found John Andrix by the riverbank, some 100 meters away from their fishing spot.

The child was unconscious and was taken to the hospital.

“But he’s now in stable condition,” Alamo said.

Members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately conducted search and rescue operation but failed to locate John Vincent that day.

His body was found 10:55 a.m. Sunday near a dam at Barangay Valderrama, Culasi.

Alamo said the area is 1.5 kilometers away from their fishing spot.
