The national government recently released P40 million from the Local Government Support Funds (LGSF) to support proposed projects of two target barangays in Antique under the Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP).

Brgy. Bulan-bulan, San Remigio intends to use the funds for the construction of their farm-to-market road, while Cabladan, Sibalom will use the money for classrooms, roads, water systems and electrification project.

The two barangays are among the 74 target barangays of the LGSF-SBDP in Western Visayas.

A series of coordination meetings between DILG Antique, the DILG Regional Office’s Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU) and the Antique Provincial Government as project implementor threshed out systems and strategies to ensure successful SBDP implementation.

Each target barangay will be given P20 million through direct release by the Bureau of Treasury to the provincial government.

The barangays had earlier been identified as beneficiaries of the End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) program of the national government.

The mayors of San Remigio and Sibalom manifested their statement of support for the implementation of priority projects as included in the target barangays’ development plan.  They assured the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) that they will do their part to ensure that deliverables are met.

“This program is a realization of the longtime dream of the constituents of Brgy. Bulan-bulan to have quality roads.  For Barangay Cabladan, the projects are designed to alleviate the hardships of the constituents, so I hope that the SBDP fund will be used efficiently and effectively to implement them,” said DILG Antique Provincial Director Cherryl P. Tacda. “

The projects were identified by the recipients through a Barangay Development Planning workshop conducted by DILG Antique last year, in preparation for their submission of project proposals.  The proposed project had been submitted to the Provincial Government, and had been endorsed to the Regional Development Council.

The funds had been downloaded to the Provincial Government, which shall implement the project, while   DILG Antique is tasked to continuously monitor their implementation.
