THE Iloilo City Council approved on Oct. 1, 2019 the supplemental budget which included P2.3 million for the establishment of a dialysis center at Barangay East Baluarte in Molo district

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas initiated the dialysis center for indigent recipients in the metropolis who are battling both kidney diseases, and costly clinic or hospital fees and services.

He noted the facility was initially a new health center and found it a good one to host the equipment.

“This project is one of our priorities to address the health needs and concerns of constituents. The Department of Health (DOH) regional office will be donating four dialysis machines,” Treñas stressed.

“This initiative will provide free treatment to beneficiaries. This will defray them of P4,000 fees per dialysis session,” he added.

Hemodialysis uses a special filter called a dialyzer that functions as an artificial kidney to clean the blood while peritoneal dialysis is another procedure that removes extra water and wastes from the body, according to National Kidney and Transplant Institute.

The supplemental budget also included P1 million fund for rabies vaccines for pets.

The vaccines are good for additional 13,070 dogs and cats for this year.

The Office of City Veterinarian (OCV) encouraged residents to be responsible pet owners by availing of pet’s rabies vaccination.

They already vaccinated 700 dogs and cats July-September.

OCV is now in the process to purchase more than 1,000 10-dose vials rabies vaccines to sustain the program for public health safety. (Iloilo City PIO)
