BACOLOD City – Lone district Rep. Greg Gasataya said Thursday that the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will shoulder the hotel accommodations of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were repatriated here this week.

This, after netizens as well as the OFWs themselves appealed for better quarantine facilities for the “unsung heroes” of the country.

Gasataya said OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac committed to him that the agency will take care of the hotel accommodations of Bacoleño OFWs who were required to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Those who are already under quarantine will be transferred. We thank the OWWA for their continued assistance to our OFWs,” Gasataya added.

28 OFWs from this city who were stranded in Metro Manila during the lockdown arrived here Tuesday night and were brought to a public school that was converted into a quarantine center by the city government.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said OWWA also committed to pay for the hotel that will be used as quarantine facility of Negrense OFWs.

Lacson said the provincial government will pay for the food.

Some 24 Negrense OFWs were brought to the Provincial Healing Center quarantine facility in EB Magalona.

They will also be transferred to a hotel.
