ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 40-year-old fisherman died while another was rescued after their fishing boat capsized Wednesday evening in the waters of Brgy. Baybay here.

Edmund Paco, 40, was found dead inside the boat while Angelo Morerro, 49, survived. Both are residents of Sitio Nipa, Brgy. Culasi, Roxas City.

Investigation by local authorities here indicated that the two left to fish in Brgy. Olotayan around 12 p.m. Wednesday. But when they returned home around 8 p.m., strong winds hit their fishing boat causing it to capsize.

Morerro held on to the capsized boat to survive. He later saw Paco trapped inside the boat.

Four fishermen responded to the incident and tried to rescue Paco but to no avail.

Meanwhile, four other fishermen survived when their fishing boat also capsized in the waters off Roxas City earlier that day.

The survivors were identified as boat captain Arman Amangca, 51, and his crewmembers Richard Delos Reyes, 52; Romel Dela Cruz, 23; and Nemecio Ayayo, 60, all residents of Brgy. Libas here.

They were on their way home when strong winds also upturned their fishing boat. Luckily, they were able to jump off the boat and swim to safety.
