BACOLOD City – A woman died while her brother and relative were wounded after their motorcycle crashed into a truck at Crossing Bag-o, Barangay San Jose, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

The fatality was identified as Violeta Garcia, 54, of Barangay Gil Montilla, Sipalay City.

Wounded were Rudy Caño, 49, and Romeo Garcia, 64, both residents of Sipalay City.

Police Major Ellendie Rebusquillo, Binalbagan town police chief, said the victims were on their way home when they figured in the accident.

Rebusquillo said the victims were tailing a truck that was on its way to Himamaylan City when Caño attempted to overtake on the right side of the vehicle.

Caño thought that the truck driver noticed him, but while approaching the curve part of the road, the motorcycle was hit causing the riders to fall from the bike, the police chief added.

The Garcias’ were run over by the rear tire of the truck, while Caño suffered minor injuries, Rebusquillo said.

Violeta was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, while Romeo is still confined in a hospital.

Rebusquillo said the truck driver was released from police custody last Monday, following a settlement with the victims’ family.
