NIA sets green light for the construction of Bayuyan Earthfill Dam in Capiz

To signal the start of project construction, the National Irrigation Administration, represented by Acting Administrator Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen, and the Lorenzo Construction and Development Corporation / Silver Dragon Construction and Lumber and Glass Supply, Inc. (Joint Venture), represented by Authorized Managing Officer Jerry L. Sy, signed the P396.142-million Contract Agreement for the construction of Bayuyan Earthfill Dam and its appurtenant structures in President Roxas, Capiz under the Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) Contract Number R6-BSRIPD-C-34R4 at the Conference Room of the Administrator, 2nd Floor, Building B.

With water source from the Bayuyan River, Bayuyan SRIP includes the construction of 29.72-meter tall Earthfill Dam, spillway, irrigation and diversion conduit, drainage crossing, and access/service road. The project covers 594 hectares of agricultural land in the barangays of Bayuyan, Badiangon, Carmencita, Cubay, Ibaca, and Sto. Niño to benefit 477 farmers and their families.

Du, NIA Region VI Regional Manager Engr. Rory F. Avance, Acting Engineering Department Manager Engr. Reynaldo L. Baloloy, Construction Management Division Manager Engr. Ma. Minene P. Evangelista, and Aklan-Capiz Irrigation Management Office (IMO) Engineering and Operations Section Chief Engr. Julieta E. Gallardo are also present during the Contract Signing.

Bayuyan SRIP is set to break ground in early March of this year to officially kick off the construction of the dam. Once completed, the project shall benefit the province by creating employment opportunities, significantly increasing agricultural production, and providing opportunities for fish production and other purposes.
