A motorcycle driver was killed after crashing into a sports utility vehicle (SUV) early evening of Dec 5, 2021 in Badiangan, Iloilo.

Arman Soresca, 41, a resident of Zone 1, Barangay South Fundidor, Molo, Iloilo City, was declared dead on arrival at the Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Janiuay town.

Lieutenant Ma. Doreen Losaria, Badiangan police chief, said Soresca worked as an engineer at the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

Luckily, Soresca’s backrider and co-worker, 29-year-old Denmark Gramo of Barangay Tamuan, Janiuay, Iloilo, survived.

Witnesses said Soresca lost control of his Yamaha Mio motorcycle as it skidded and veered to the opposite lane while navigating Barangay Linayu-an around 6 p.m. Sunday.

The bike then slammed into a Montero Sport SUV which was running on the opposite lane.

SUV driver Boicee Cortuna, 57, a resident of Barangay Iniligan, Badiangan, Iloilo claimed he had already noticed the unsteady maneuvering of the motorcycle.

This prompted Cortuna to stop on the road shoulder, but Soresca still rammed into his vehicle.

Losaria said Soresca and Gramo came from an inland resort and were on their way home when the incident happened.

It remains uncertain if the duo was drunk during the incident.

But reports claimed they were not wearing crash helmets.

Cortuna was taken into police custody after the incident.

But Losaria said both camps have agreed to amicably settle the incident.
