BACOLOD City – A woman accompanied by her mother surfaced at the police station yesterday, a day after the woman’s newborn baby boy was found dead in a public cemetery at Hacienda Felecia 1, Barangay 8, Victorias City, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Fajardo Jr., city police chief, said the mother told the police that they left the baby at the cemetery as they have no means to properly bury his remains.

Fajardo said the baby was wrapped in a white cloth and was placed inside a box when found by a caretaker.

According to the police, the caretaker saw three unidentified male teenagers digging a pit at the back part of the cemetery then left after a few minutes.

When he checked, he discovered the box containing the baby.

Fajardo said the mother alleged that the baby was already dead from the hospital when they left him at the cemetery.

Despite the claim of the mother, Fajardo said they will still have to study the case to determine if she has a liability.

Fajardo said the baby was already given a proper burial.
