New CFOS faculty members and REPS introduced to UP policies and procedures

As new members of the University of the Philippines (UP), newly hired faculty members and Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS) of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) were introduced to essential policies, procedures, standards, and programs that govern all UP constituents.

The CFOS, through the Quality Assurance Office, conducted an orientation for its faculty members and REPS on the University procedures, processes, and policies via Zoom on March 8, 2021, to guide especially the new members of the academic staff in performing their duties and responsibilities. This was also attended by the junior and senior faculty members and REPS of the College.

The CFOS hired five (5) new faculty members, namely, Asst. Prof. Dr. Farisal Ungkakay-Bagsit and Asst. Prof. Jessica Dator-Bercilla of the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies (IFPDS); Ms. Byrille Tiara M. Galon of the Institute of Fish Processing Technology (IFPT); and Ms. Jonalyn P. Mateo and Mr. Christian James P. Morales of the Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology (IMFO).

The newly-hired REPS are Ms. Emelyn Mameloco, Ms. Joana Mae Mong, and Ms. Besse Joy Elle of the Institute of Aquaculture (IA).

Ms. Ella O. Tidon, chief of the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO), presented the University policies and procedures on appointments and related matters. HRDO staff Ms. Jocelyn Barcelona and Ms. Joy Moquera discussed the faculty development and leave privileges, respectively.

CFOS Dean Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap talked about the important matters related to the academic staff’s role as educators and researchers in the University.

On behalf of their colleagues, Mateo and Galon expressed their appreciation for being part of the CFOS family. Mateo said that they feel guarded and mentored. This was echoed by Galon, adding that they never felt alone in facing the challenges as new faculty members in UP. (Lenilyn B. Gallos, CFOS)
