Young and emerging star Naomi Osaka from Japan withdrew from the 2019 WTA Finals after suffering a shoulder injury that will keep her out of the sport for at least two months.

The most anticipated clash with newly crowned world number one Ashleigh Barty will be halted due to her injury, and her fans and the tennis community wish Osaka nothing but a speedy recovery.

Osaka was coming in hot in the tournament, dropping huge wins including a demolition of Petra Kvitova in the early rounds.

The shoulder injury also bothered her progression in the tournament last year, and it is something her team will look into extensively.

Osaka is still young and has already won two grand slam titles including a very emotional and impressive one against Serena Williams in the US Open.

“This is not how I wanted to end this tournament or my season. I look forward to getting healthy and hope to be back here in Shenzhen next year,” Osaka said.
