Criminal charges were already filed against a 34-year-old man who allegedly shot his two nephews in Maasin, Iloilo on July 21, 2022.

Cases for murder and frustrated murder with the use of an unlicensed firearm in relation to Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) were filed against Samuel Motivo, a resident of Sitio Tagsing, Barangay Panalian, Maasin.

He was charged on Saturday, July 23, before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutors Office.

The shooting incident stemmed from an argument between Samuel and his older brother, Ariel Motivo, Thursday evening.

The two reportedly quarreled over their electricity dues.

After their verbal tussle, Samuel went home and allegedly took his 12-gauge shotgun and fired it at Ariel’s house.

Ariel was not home but his two sons were sitting at their veranda.

The 6-year-old boy was hit on the head and was believed to have instantly died.

Ariel’s other child, an 11-year-old boy, was hit on the chest and shoulder.

They were still taken to the hospital, but the younger son was pronounced dead on arrival.

Responding policemen arrested Samuel and recovered the 12-gauge shotgun he allegedly used.

Meanwhile, Samuel said that he was remorseful about what happened but claimed it was not his intention to harm his nephews.

Samuel said they challenged each other to a fight after they quarreled over their electricity bill.

He allegedly went home to get a gun and shot it in the direction of Ariel’s house but hit the two children who were playing on a mobile phone.

Samuel is now detained for proper disposition of his case.
