Motorcycle driver killed in road mishap

BACOLOD City – A motorcycle driver died after he was ran over by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Barangay Palaka, Valladolid, Negros Occidental Wednesday on July 3, 2019.

Police identified the fatality as Jopel Moraca, 20, of Barangay Tabao, San Enrique town.

Police Captain Joseth Catonina, Valladolidpolice chief, said Mocara was tailing the SUV driven by Wilbur Roa, 62, of Talisay City, when the latter executed a U-turn.

Moraca, who was not wearing a helmet, allegedly hit the left door of the SUV and crashed to the road. He later was pinned under the left rear wheel of the car.

Rescuers and some bystanders helped each other in lifting the SUV to free Moraca.

He was rushed to a hospital here, but he expired around 11:30 p.m. due to severe head and body injuries.

The SUV driver and the three members of his family were unharmed.
