Mejorada apologized for gay slur

FORMER Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel “Boy” Mejorada

FORMER Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel “Boy” Mejorada apologized to the LGBT community for the statement he issued in the Mar 4, 2019 interview with Bombo Radyo-Iloilo regarding the case of capitol aide Ruel Von Superio.

In his Facebook post and blocktime program over Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo, Mejorada said he has nothing but respect for the gay community where he has many friends and acquaintances.

Mejorada got brickbats from the LGBT community after he was cited in an online news article alluding to gays as “susceptible to corruption.”

The online article has since been taken down from the website.

The statement was attributed to Mejorada’s interview with Bombo Radyo broadcast journalist Israel Vincent “Don” Dolido regarding the unexplained wealth case he filed against Superio.

“I acknowledge that I overstepped a little in what I have said and I am sorry for that. I should have avoided taking up the issue of Von’s confession that he is gay. In fact, I admire his courage in coming out into the open. But it does not excuse him from the graft case,” Mejorada said.

Mejorada said that he does not blame the LGBT community for their outburst at the statement attributed to him in the article.

He added that he regrets saying the words that may have insulted the gay community.

“I should have not said those words and I sincerely apologize for this unfortunate episode.”
