A job hire worker of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Sibalom, Antique was shot dead morning of January 21, 2021.

Riding-in-tandem suspects gunned down 25-year-old Vernel Mondreal, a resident of Barangay Igpanulong, Sibalom town.

Reports claimed that Mondreal was driving his motorcycle at Sitio Bungalog, Barangay Salvacion near the boundary of Barangay Igdalaquit when he was shot.

Sibalom MDRRMO Head Joel Odango said the victim was on his way to the office when the gun attack happened.

The victim died from multiple gunshot injuries.

Mondreal has been serving at the MDRRMO administrative office for about a year already.

The victim’s officemates claimed Mondreal had no bad blood with anyone.

Investigation is still going on to identify the suspects and establish the motive for the killing.

But aside from his MDRRMO work, several groups claimed that Mondreal also stood as a municipal coordinator of the provincial peasant organization Katilingban sang mga Mangunguma sa Antique (KAMAAN).

Mondreal also served as head of Igpanolong Human Rights Desk that is reportedly in-charge of monitoring human rights violations in their community.
