Man stabs uncle over P500 debt

A P500 debt allegedly sparked a stabbing incident between a man and his uncle in Bingawan, Iloilo.

The incident happened 10 p.m. of March 2, 2019 at Barangay Agba-o.

Both Rubennito Diaz, 29, and Jornel Suarez, 42, were drunk when the stabbing episode occurred.

According to witnesses, Suarez was drinking liquor at his brother’s house when Diaz arrived. The suspect even had a drink before Suarez decided to go home.

Suarez’s wife and Diaz’s father are cousins.

Police Corporal Julet Sumagpao, Bingawan police investigator, said Suarez left the house together with his wife and their two children. But as he went out of the gate, Diaz ran after him and stabbed his abdomen.

Suarez’s wife claimed that the two did not figure in an argument before the incident happened.

One of Suarez’s children even had to bite Diaz’s arm to prevent him from further attacking the victim.

But Diaz claimed that he was piqued when Suarez only paid P200 of the P500 the latter allegedly owed the suspect.

Diaz said the victim punched him on the ear before the stabbing incident happened.

The suspect was arrested in a follow-up operation. He is detained at the lock-up cell of Bingawan Police Station pending the filing of charges against him.
