A drunk man stabbed dead his nephew evening of Sept. 1, 2019 in Arevalo, Iloilo City.

Police identified the suspect as Salvador Abantao, 55, while the fatality was 39-year old Wilfredo Abantao Jr. Both are residents of Zone 12, Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo district.

Based on police investigation, the knife attack happened after Wilfredo went to his neighbor’s house at around 10:40 p.m. Sunday for drinks.

But he allegedly heard his uncle shouting on top of his voice.

Salvador was yelling at his neighbors to stop drinking because it was already late at night and it could create nuisance or trouble.

Wilfredo cautioned his uncle against creating alarm and scandal in their neighborhood.

Shortly later, the victim went out but his uncle met him with stabs.

Salvador was hit on the elbow and abdomen.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but he did not pull through.

Police investigators surmised that the victim’s reprimand did not sit well with the suspect.

The suspect was subsequently arrested.

A remorseful Salvador claimed that he did not mean to kill his nephew. He claimed that things happened quickly and before he knew, he attacked Wilfredo.

But he admitted, though, that he harbored ill feelings against the victim for meddling every time he tried to impose discipline on his drunkard son.

His son used to seek refuge at Salvador’s house when they had misunderstandings, Wilfredo said.

The suspect is now detained while charges are being readied against him.
