A 41-year-old man is now behind bars after he allegedly stabbed his wife and her younger brother evening of Aug 15, 2022 in Calinog, Iloilo.

Roberto Bautista, a resident of Barangay Alibunan, Calinog, was enraged after his wife refused to talk to him after she arrived from Kuwait.

He then attacked his wife, 38-year-old Lilibeth Bautista, and also wounded her brother, Roel Carolina, 34.

Staff Sergeant Joven Aldabon, Calinog police investigator, said Lilibeth is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who arrived in Iloilo on Aug 13.

Instead of going to the house she shared with her husband, Lilibeth stayed at her mother’s house, which is also in Alibunan village.

Prior to that, the victim had told the suspect of her plan to end their marriage. The couple has two children. The eldest, 20, has her own family already.

But Roberto resisted the victim’s break-up proposal. He went to his mother-in-law’s house to talk to Lilibeth.

The suspect and Roel even had a drink before the former insisted on talking to Lilibeth.

When the woman refused citing that Roberto was already drunk, the latter insisted to go inside the house.

As he made his way inside, Roberto allegedly stabbed Lilibeth. She sustained a laceration on both hands.

Roberto also attacked Roel who tried to pacify the fight. He suffered a stab injury on his right thigh.

Both victims were rushed to Calinog District Hospital but were discharged after getting treated.

Aldabon said Catolin would file a case while Lilibeth claimed she would not pursue any charge against her husband.
