A 27-year-old man is detained after he allegedly shot his wife’s alleged lover early morning of March 13 at La Paz, Iloilo City.

Jeffer Sumaguio, 27, of Barangay Cubay, Jaro, was arrested by responding cops shortly after he shot Marvin Gawan.

According to police reports, Sumaguio, together with two unnamed men, barged into Gawan’s rented room at Barangay Ticud around 1:45 a.m. on Monday.

The victim, a resident of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, was with the suspect’s 28-year-old wife Maria (not her real name).

The trio allegedly mauled Maria and Gawan.

The victim was able to shake off the three and flee but Sumaguio ran after him.

The suspect then shot the victim, who was hit on the right portion of his waist.

Captain Johna Aguil, Iloilo City Police Station 2 chief, said Maria did not deny that she is living with Gawan but claimed that she had been separated from her husband.

But Sumaguio insisted that he is not estranged from his wife. He claimed that he attacked them after seeing that they were intimate with each other.

Before forcing open Gawan’s rented room, he claimed to have peeped through a hole and saw them doing the act. He also denied knowing the two men who were allegedly with him.

Sumaguio insisted that he just paid the two to bring him to La Paz.

But while he admitted having physically hurt his wife and shooting the victim, he might be released from detention.

His wife claimed that she’s no longer interested in filing charges against the suspect for the sake of their 7-year-old daughter.

Gawan also told police authorities that he would not pursue any criminal case against Sumaguio for Maria’s sake.
