A 44-year-old man added to the number of gun ban violators in Western Visayas after he yielded a knife evening of April 9, 2022 in Leganes, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspect as Reynaldo Villa, a resident of Barangay Nabitasan, Leganes.
Local authorities responded to Nabitasan village after Villa’s common-law wife, 35-year-old Vina (not her real name), asked for police assistance.
The complainant claimed that Villa punched her and physically harmed their two young children.
Worse, the suspect allegedly chased his wife with a knife.
Villa was drunk when the incident happened.
When police responded, Corporal Jansen Parcon tried to pacify Villa.
But the suspect attacked Parcon with the knife, which he evaded.
Villa was subsequently subdued and put behind bars.
As of this writing, Vina has yet to show up at police stations to lodge a formal complaint against her live-in partner.
But the suspect will still be charged for violation of Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Resolution No. 10728.
Promulgated on Nov. 10, 2021, Comelec Resolution No. 10728 sets the “Rules and Regulations on the Van on the (1) Bearing, Carrying or Transporting of Firearms or Other Deadly Weapons; and (2) Employment, Availment or Engagement of the Services of Security Personnel or Bodyguards During the Election Period of the May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections.”
