A 54-year-old man was arrested for alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm morning of Sept 22, 2022 in Arevalo, Iloilo City.

Barangay tanods (village watchmen) initially arrested Edgardo Magbanua, a resident of Sto. Niño Sur village, Arevalo, for causing alarm and scandal and making threats.

When responding members of the Iloilo City Police Station 6 arrived, they frisked the suspect and found a revolver with two ammunition in his possession.

Prior to that, Magbanua, who was allegedly drunk, had a fight with his wife.

Major Chen Tañagras, ICPS6 chief, said the suspect got jealous and a heated confrontation ensued between them.

The couple’s children allegedly came to the defense of their mother. This further irked the suspect who reportedly fired his gun.

His daughter, 34-year-old Noralyn Villanueva, called the police claiming that Magbanua fired his gun and threatened her by poking a gun at her face.

“Tanan sa pamilya niya, akig sa iya,” Tañagras said.

It was not immediately known, though, if the suspect had prior police records or complaints.

Magbanua is now detained and will be charged with violation of Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
