BACOLOD City – A misunderstanding over a drinking session claimed the life of a man after he was stabbed by his younger brother in Barangay La Granja, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental last Friday.

Police identified the victim as Renante Francisco, 46, of the said village.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Lowell Garinganao, city police chief, said Renante and his younger brother Rodel, 36 were drinking liquor at the victim’s house when a heated argument occurred between them.

Garinganao said the younger Francisco allegedly punched the victim and challenged him to a fight but was subsequently pacified by their neighbors.

Francisco went home but then returned with a knife and allegedly stabbed Renante.

The victim was rushed to Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Garinganao said that Rodel voluntarily surrendered the following day and regrets what happened, telling the police that it was not his intention to kill his elder brother.

“Daw hinubog lang siguro kay wala man na sila away gid,” he added.

Garinganao said they are waiting for the decision of the victim’s wife on the possible filing of case against her brother-in-law.
