A 28-year-old native of Catanduanes province was stabbed dead by his co-worker evening of Sept 20, 2020 in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

Rolando Santos, who was temporarily residing at Zone 4, Merlo St., Poblacion, Sta. Barbara, succumbed to four stab injuries on his body.

Santos was in Iloilo because of his live-in partner who’s living in Barangay Bado, Calinog town.

They later rented a place in Sta. Barbara after the victim got hired by Corden Agro-Industry at Barangay Tungay, Sta. Barbara.

Major Raymond Celoso, Sta. Barbara police chief, said the victim was on a drinking binge at a store in Tungay village when the suspect, Cherry Alejo, a resident of Lambunao town, arrived.

Alejo, who was also drunk, allegedly confronted the victim.

“The two had misunderstanding after Santos lost his knife. He apparently accused Alejo as the person who took it,” Celoso said.

The confrontation turned physical as Santos and Alejo traded punches.

Alejo later pulled a knife and stabbed the victim.

Santos was taken to Western Visayas Sanitarium in Sta. Barbara town but he did not survive.

Alejo immediately fled from the crime scene.

But at around 8 am Saturday, he voluntarily surrendered at the urging of his uncle.

He is now detained at Sta. Barbara Police Station.
