BACOLOD City – A man and a baby boy died after their houses situated near a creek were destroyed by flashflood due to incessant rains brought by a low-pressure area on Friday.

Over the weekend, a five-month-old baby was found dead along the shoreline of Barangay 35 here last Saturday.

Police identified the fatality as Jake Lorence Tortogo.

He was reported missing on Friday night after he was swept away by flood while he was sleeping on a hammock at their house in Barangay Taculing.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Aaron Bais said the baby was found by a seashell gatherer around 6:20 a.m.

Meanwhile, Nino Lambarte, 40, of Bakyas, Barangay Mansilingan died after he was trapped alone at home when a cemented wall fell on his house due to flooding.

Police Inspector Florentino Abalayan, head of Police Station 7, said Lambarte was rushed to a hospital but he died a few hours later.

Bais said that 49 areas here were flooded on Friday and many people were stranded, following heavy downpour since morning until early in the evening that day.

No evacuation was made because the water subsided hours later, he added.
