Man hacks neighbors over smelly pigpen

By Jennifer P. Rendon

A fetid pigpen, coupled with foul-smelling wastes from a flock of ducks, drove a farmer into a rage and attacked his neighbors in Miag-ao, Iloilo.

The incident happened 7 p.m. on Aug 22, 2022 led to the death of Jesus Falsario Sr., 48, barangay tanod commander of Baraclayan; and injured his wife, Catalina, 47.

Jesus suffered multiple hack injuries on the head and back of his body while Catalina was wounded on her forehead, arm, and finger.

The latter is being treated at Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City.

According to police reports, the victims were at their furniture shop beside their house, when the suspect, 31-year-old Monciar Laurencio, arrived.

Laurencio’s house is adjacent to the Falsarios’.

Jesus Palsario, Baraclayan’s village treasure and the victim’s nephew, said he witnessed the incident from the lanai of their house.

He allegedly heard the drunken Laurencio shouting about the couple’s smelly pigpen.

Jesus calmly talked to the suspect, but the latter pulled out a bolo tucked in his waist.

As Laurencio made the first strike, the wife allegedly tried to parry the blow, but she fell to the ground.

Falsario went to the aid of Catalina and hugged her. But the suspect hacked him, too.

Falsario then tried to run but he slipped twice giving the suspect the chance to repeatedly hacked him.

Captain Marvin Buenavista, Miag-ao police chief, said the suspect immediately fled and remains at large as of this writing.

It was not immediately known if the suspect had lodged prior complaints against the victims.
