Man dies in shootout with soldier he robbed, 1 nabbed

BACOLOD City – A man died while his companion was arrested after they allegedly robbed a soldier at gunpoint at Sitio Bigong, Brgy. Dawis, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental Thursday night.

Police identified the fatality as Randy Blanco, 39, of the said village. Arrested was Jenrel Blanco, 27.

Investigation indicated that Corporal Edwardo Iran Jr. of the Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion (IB), along with 24-year-old Teopesto Narciso, a Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) member, were riding a motorcycle when the suspects, who were also on board a motorcycle, tailed them.

Jenrel allegedly blocked Iran’s way while Randy allegedly threatened the soldier with a handgun and declared the hold-up.

Iran managed to draw and fire his gun at Randy several times, prompting Jenrel to flee. Narciso chased and later arrested Jenrel.

Randy was rushed to a hospital, but he was declared dead.

Recovered from the scene were a .38-caliber revolver loaded with three live ammunitions, and a motorcycle without plate number owned by the suspects.

Jenrel, who is detained at Bayawan City Police Station, will be facing robbery charges.
