Local communities in central Iloilo towns get new covered gym

Residents of various local communities in the towns of Sta. Barbara, Leon and Allimodian in central Iloilo now have a better venue for their community activities with the construction of multi-purpose building by provided by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office.

Citing from the report of District Engineer Mario G. Soriano, Regional Director Nerie D Bueno said these structures, with the collective cost of Php 44.54 million funded under the District’s FY 2022 Local Infrastructure Program (LIP), include the construction of multi-purpose covered gyms with necessary amenities beneficial for hundreds of local residents.

“These new covered gyms will provide residents with a better and more convenient venue for social, religious, political, health and wellness and reactional activities in their barangays,” Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said.

“These will also serve as temporary evacuation centers for the people in times of calamities and disasters, especially those families who are living in flood prone or landslide-prone areas,” Bueno added.

Soriano said that these covered gyms, built in far-flung and remote areas in central Iloilo, will also serve as temporary storage of crops and agricultural products, especially during harvest season.

“Aside from being a conducive venue for social gatherings and barangay affairs, these structures may also serve as temporarily post-harvest facility during harvest season where our farmers can temporarily place their crops and other agricultural products for safekeeping,” District Engineer Mario G. Soriano stressed.

“Other than providing quality roads, bridges, and flood control structures, DPWH continues to undertake significant infrastructures like multi-purpose buildings to provide local communities with better and safer public infrastructures,” DE Soriano added.

Each costing ₱4.945 million, the completed nine buildings are located in the barangays of Camambugan, Balibagan Eoste and Agusipan in Sta. Barbara town; Cuyad and Ulay-Bugang in Alimodian town; and Isian Victoria, Barasan, Coyugan Sur and Nagbangi in Leon town. (DPWH-6)
