A tip-off from a relative led to the arrest of a wanted person in Surigao del Sur province late morning of August 21, 2021.

The Lemery Police Station confirmed the arrest of 32-year-old Rogelio Torre at Barangay San Roque, San Miguel town.

Captain Edwin Belarmino, Lemery police chief, said local police from Surigao del Sur helped them serve the arrest warrant against Torre for two counts of violation of Republic Act 8353 (The Anti-Rape Law of 1997) in relation to RA 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) docketed under Criminal Case Numbers 2016-7682 and 2016-7683.

Judge Rogelio Amador of the Iloilo Regional Trial Court Branch 66, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo issued the warrant of arrest on Sept. 19, 2016.

No bail was recommended for his temporary freedom.

Belarmino said the complainant is also a resident of Lemery.

Torre left town even before the court issued the warrant of arrest.

Nothing was heard from Torre until last week when a relative, whom he apparently has odds with, told the police of his whereabouts.

Belarmino said it didn’t take long for the local police to locate the suspect after his picture and arrest warrant were sent.

Torre is now detained.
