Landslide reported in Sipalay

BACOLOD City – A landslide occurred at Mina ruins in Barangay San Jose, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental yesterday.

Executive Assistant Dionilo Bogtae, head of the Public Safety and Sipalay Emergency Assistance and Rescue Services (SEARS), said the landslide occurred following heavy rains Tuesday morning.

Fortunately, no individuals were affected as the area is far from the houses.

Bogtae said they are continuously monitoring and assessing the situation, especially if the rain continues.

Meanwhile, 419 individuals were evacuated from Barangays Gil Montilla, Maricalum, and Mambarato last Sunday due to flooding caused by heavy rains due to the recent typhoon.

But the following day, the evacuees returned to their respective houses when the water subsided.

Also, 80 percent of the Punta Barasbarasan Dike in Manlucahoc was damaged, while 66 farmers and 64.37 hectares of agricultural land were affected by the typhoon, based on the initial report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
