A PETTY quarrel ended in violence after a lady barangay kagawad (barangay council member) stabbed her husband inside their house in Calinog, Iloilo evening of Oct. 20, 2019.

The suspect, 49-year-old Arlyn Serra, voluntarily surrendered after the knife attack that wounded her husband, Danilo Serra, 54.

Danilo is recuperating in a hospital in Iloilo City from two stab injuries on his back while Arlyn had to be placed on hospital arrest due to unstable blood pressure.

Police Major Jose Nemias Pamplona, Calinog police chief, said the suspect attended their barangay assembly meeting prior to the incident.

After the meeting, the wife joked around with her fellow village officials. This happy sight apparently irked the victim.

Danilo confronted Arlyn on their way home and put malice on her going to the barangay hall.

Arlyn reasoned that it’s nothing but normal that she frequently went to the barangay hall since she’s an elected village official.

But her explanation did not appease Danilo.

While inside their house, the confrontation persisted. He allegedly poised to attack her wife with a 1.5-meter long improvised bolo made of bamboo.

This compelled Arlyn to push her husband out of their house.

Outside, he began throwing stones at their own home.

When he attempted to go inside while armed with a bolo, the provoked wife got hold of a knife and stabbed her husband twice on the back.

The victim was rushed to the hospital while Arlyn turned herself in before the Calinog Police Station.

Pamplona said the couple’s children are still discussing the disposition of their parents’ case.
