A village official in Cabatuan, Iloilo, died of electrocution afternoon of Aug. 30, 2019.

Barangay Captain Marcelo Malificiar, 56, of Zone 10, Cabatuan town expired several minutes after he was brought to Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital in Cabatuan.

Lieutenant Joebert Amado, Cabatuan PNP officer-in-charge, said Malificiar was fixing a signage of their booth at the Cabatuan Agro-Industrial Fair when the incident happened.

He scaled on an aluminium step ladder to install their booth’s name. But the ladder apparently touched a live wire of their extension cord.

A younger man who assisted Malificiar tried to save the victim from electrocution by allegedly kicking the ladder.

The victim fell to the pavement face down.

Amado said doctors tried to revive the victim but he died at 4:35 p.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, another man was killed of electrocution at Calinog, Iloilo noon of Friday.

Police identified the victim as Rodney Panugot, 23, of Barangay Mambiranan, Calinog.

Police Major Jose Nemias Pamplona, Calinog police chief, said the victim was fixing something from their roof when he suddenly fell on the floor.

He was brought to the hospital where it was learned that he got electrocuted.
