Kanlaon volcano showing signs of restiveness

BACOLOD City – Kanlaon volcano showed increasing restiveness in the past days.

As of August 15, 2021, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported 16 volcanic earthquakes during a 24-hour monitoring period.

There is also moderate emission of white steam laden plumes that rose 500 meters before drifting to the south.

On Saturday, 15 volcanic earthquakes were monitored while moderate emission of white steam laden plumes that rose 300 meters before drifting to the West was observed.

On Friday, 13 volcanic earthquakes were monitored while weak and moderate emission of white steam laden plumes that rose 300 meters before drifting to northeast, southwest, and southeast directions was observed.

Four (4) kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) must be strictly prohibited.
