BACOLOD City – A village councilman survived the attempt on his life last Monday after he was able to escape from unidentified motorcycle-assailants who tried to blocked his way at Barangay Calampisawan, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Police Major Rocky Desear, town police chief, said Kagawad Adonis Gabutero, 44, of Barangay Ilaya was riding a motorcycle when one of the assailants shot him. Fortunately, he was able to evade the bullet.

Desear said the victim left his motorcycle and ran to seek help. He, however, sustained bruises during his escape.

Recovered from the scene were six fired cartridges of .45-caliber ammunition, and a live cartridge of the same caliber.

Desear said the victim later identified the gunman as Archelito Dumip-ig, 48, of Barangay Ilaya, but his motorcycle driver companion remains to be unidentified.

Prior to the incident, the village councilman’s brother was accused of threats.

Desear said they are looking into the previous incident if it is connected with the shooting.

“It could be revenge on their family,” the city police chief added.

Desear also said that they are looking into politics as another angle because of previous issues at Barangay Ilaya between Gabutero’s family and some individuals.

Investigation is ongoing.
